Support for mothers by mothers
We are a group of mothers, all of whom who have breastfed for some time, who have come together to share their experiences and to provide support to other breastfeeding mothers.
We believe that whilst breastfeeding is one of the greatest things you can do for your baby, it is also often the hardest.
We want to provide someone who can listen, someone who understands what you are going through and someone you can trust to give you the right information to enable you to make the decisions and choices that are right for you and your baby and not to force you into doing anything.
We combine a whole range of experiences of breastfeeding – the good, the bad, the painful, the wonderful, some lasting a short time, others longer. We can share with you how we have dealt with questions and issues around many aspects of breastfeeding.
We’re not just here for mothers who are currently feeding small babies – we welcome bumps, babies and bigger children. We also welcome mothers, partners, grandparents and other people who want to support breastfeeding.
We aren’t ‘the breastapo’ and we aren’t anti-formula, in fact many of us have formula fed BUT we are unashamedly pro-breastfeeding and are here to give mothers the information and support they need.
Members of our group have trained as Mother Supporters with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers – they are able to give basic breastfeeding help but more importantly know where to get fully trained help and further information for you.
We are not aligned to any particular organisation – we don’t have any hidden messages or agendas. We receive some financial support from Petit Poppet via their Herts/Beds sling agent, who is a founding member of the group.
The group was launched in the summer of 2009. We meet every Monday except some Bank Hollidays, and the odd day of heavy snow has stopped us during the 2009/2010 winter. Urgent updates and notifications about cafe closures on some Bank Holidays will be posted on the homepage.
